What is SKID CAR?

SKID CAR is a Ford Mondeo that can simulate all types of road conditions at the touch of a button. Your instructor will let you develop your skills as you learn how to drive safely on slippery roads - with the odd spin along the way!

But my cars got ABS and ESC so it can't skid....

ABS and ESC are fantastic inventions that are a real ocntribution to road safety. Did you know that ESC can reduce loss-of-control accidents* by 42%? Although that means 58% still happen....let SKID CAR teach you how not to get into the wrong 58%!

Sounds good, but isn't it all a bit Jeremy Clarkson?

Not at all! Yes, you'll spin round a few times, but only so you understand that you CAN recover the situation. You are taught how to drive within your own skills, not how to drive faster on slippery roads. Your instructor is alongside you at all times and can give you grip back whenever you want. The exercises take place at low speeds, giving you time to learn what is happening.

So the course is just for nervous or new drivers then?

Good heavens no! Experienced drivers take away just as much from this course as newly-qualified ones - and everyone has great fun!

But if it snows I don't take my car out... 

But I bet you drive in the rain, and do you know how much stopping distances increase on wet roads? It's an eye-opener. Did you know Wiltshire sees more skid-related accidents in August than January? Thought not.

Aren't skid pans messy places with mucky cars where I get plastered in goo?

Yes they are...which is why we don't operate a skid pan! SKID CAR is clean, state-of-the-art and the surface is untreated. And unlike a skid pan, we can vary the degree of slip to suit your personal confidence level.

Are you weather-dependant? 

Not particularly, no. Only snow has defeated us so far, we are not affected by rain or fog.
